Mandate ogWiFi is a non-profit Community Wireless Network (CWN) w/ volunteers operating on both sides of the Ottawa River helping commerces and organizations share their Internet connection with customers, the public & neighbourhoods

Aims to build a Community Communication Infrastructure to bridge the public and private spaces of our cities by: bridging the digital divide in marginalized communities enabling citizens to learn, use and play with technology promoting democratic participation in the creation and maintenance of infrastructure

What is an ogWiFi hotspot? A location (café, community centre, resource centre, pub, private home, cooperative, social housing community room, field house, gallery etc.) that shares its Internet Bandwidth using ogWiFi's technology and services at no cost to anyone within the signals reach and who wants to use it

What do you need to be a hotspot? A router (Linksys WRT54GL) & some cable (cat5) A high speed Internet connection from a provider of your choice An annual membership fee ($50) Hotspot Provider Agreement

Advantages to being a HotSpot Visibility in the community of WiFi users Access to a potential wider community base Improved experience for existing community base Cooperation with experts and volunteers associated with ogWiFi Broadcast community information via the captive portal page Attract new people via “Finder Map”

User Experience A user becomes aware that a network is available when his/her laptop detects and reports a wireless network The user clicks on the button to connect to the network The first page displayed by the user's browser is the captive portal page The user enters a name and password User is free to access internet at no charge
