Chapter 1 Emily was writing a note to her cousin. She was complaining about not having a library in her town Her mom wrote a letter to the state asking how to get a library.

Chapter 2 Mama was going to make an elegant party. Emily had left a pen gate open and their hogs got out. The party guest thought it was funny and had a good time.

Chapter 3 Emily watched her mom bleach towels. She wanted to bleach a horse so she did not pay attention in school. When she got home she bleached her horse Lady, with Clorox.

Chapter 4 Emily’s grandpa bough a new automobile. Every body in Emily's family got a ride. Emily got a ride alone to help her grandpa at his grocery store.

Chapter 5 The library finally opened. Emily got a book from it. A little boy came 4 miles to get books. Of all the books in the library there was still no Black Beauty, and that was the book Emily wanted.

Chapter 7 Emily’s book was called English fairytales. Her cousin June spent the night, They had the most spooky time ever

Chapter 8 There was a hard times party being held by some ladies. Everybody there was dressed in rags but Emily. For some reason Emily had still won a prize for her outfit!

Chapter 9!!! Emily’s mom told Emily to go get coffee. Pete Ginty (Emily’s friend) told Emily that Fong Quock wanted to trade her for a monkey wrench! Fong Quock did not trade but gave gave his house to the library.
