Beginning of the novel- The beginning links to the end of the novel- How?

‘Hide in the brush’ The novel starts with George & Lennie staying the night in the wooded area, by a stream, called ‘the brush’ George tells Lennie that if he gets into any more trouble he must come back here Why was Lennie in trouble in the first place? What had caused them to have to run away & work on the ranch in Soldad? RED!
