Sagittarius The History Behinds The Stars Presentation By: Lela Dorman “Heaven Beside You, Hell Within”

Mythology Sagittarius is named for a mythical creature, called Centaurs, who is half man and half horse. In fact, where one would usually find the horse's neck, there is a man's torse growing out of the horse. Though, this creature also has the arm's of a man. All together they have six limbs.

More Mythology In Greek Mythology, Sagittarius is also known as Centaur Chiron. Greeks believe that he was not only brave and adventureous, but wise as well. He was a great friend of Hercules, the hero. Sometimes, he was even a representation of the god Zeus. Sometimes it is said that he was connected with Tyche and Norse God Thor. Yet, in other stories he is connected with Pan, the goat-god, and Eupheme, a nymph and mother of the Muses.

A Bit More: Mythology Greeks considered Chiron the King of Centaurs. It was said that he was wild and savage but extremely wise. It was said kings of Greece sent their children to him for education. He was a great philosopher and hermit, as well as teacher. Some Greeks claim that Sagittarius, the archer, is the son of Saturn. Yet, there are different views on his parents.

Location, Location, Location Sagittarius is located at Right Ascension 19 and Declination -25degrees. It is best seen between the latitudes of +55 degrees and -90degrees during August.
