Mobile Ticketing for Public Transports ASYRMA White paper

“ASYRMA Box” in vending machine For Metro: Simply get your ‘m-paid’ ticket at the ticket machine in the Metro station Mobile Phone User/Passenger +30-97-9876543 m-Passenger sends an SMS to ASYRMA’s box ATSB “ASYRMA Box” in vending machine The ticket machine will be working with coins, as it does now, but with ATSB plugged in it can also handle mCash Passenger takes tickets printed by ASYRMA box.

For Buses: Receive your m-ticket by sms! m-Passenger sends <bus route A5> to 4-digit number Mobile Phone User/Passenger +30-97-9876543 ASYRMA Gateway connected to Telecom Operator’s SMSC (Y) 3) Sms reply: < Thank you for purchasing one adult ticket for bus route A5> 2) Bill Mobile User €0.45 for 1 adult ticket on Bus route A5 Bus controller's ruggedised wireless PDA 4) <Passenger ‘+30-97-9876543’ has purchased one adult ticket for bus route A5 at 15:32 on 16/12/2002> Mobile Operator

Considerations What about Pricing? The price of an m-Ticket could approximately the same as that of a normal ticket, as a goodwill project rather than a big money-spinner. Benefits might come in other ways, such as the encouragement to use public transport resulting from increased convenience. Alternatively, the extra cost of the m-ticket could be sponsored by adverts included in the ‘reply sms’. What about the controllers? Before boarding a bus, the controller will type the route number on his wireless PDA running ASYRMA’s m-Bus application, which will access (over GSM/GPRS or TETRA) the online database of m-ticket holders for that particular route. All the passenger has to do is give his mobile number and the controller will type it in his PDA. If there is no match or the m-ticket has been purchased more than an hour ago the controller gives a fine. Koinoniki politiki

m-info for Public Transportation

m-info Applications “Basic info – service”: send sms with origin and destination of trip and receive sms reply with number of bus [including possible changes] and ‘next bus arriving’ time [using existing online database of OASA]. “Dynamic info – service”: Same as above but using dynamically-updated real-time position of buses as given by an AVLS - Automatic Vehicle Location System (instead of static schedule). “Alerts-service”: Same as ‘Dynamic info-service’ but can send the passenger an ‘sms-alert’ a predetermined number of minutes before the bus arrives at the bus-stop giving the user of this service flexibility and time to relax, have a coffee and be on time to catch the bus! “LCD Screens”: at bus-stop informing (dynamically, through AVLS) the passengers how many minutes to the next bus arriving.
