Presentation transcript:

As you read the chapter, jot down {Fill out in notebook or composition book and include the chapter heading below in front of your answers to the numbered questions} *Monday, Feb. 3, 2014* 1984 Book One: Chapter IV p. 37-48 Important Terms: Write down each term listed on the next slide, skipping lines between each one. As you read the chapter, jot down words/phrases that define or describe each word. {As you learn new info about terms from previous chapters, add them to your earlier notes.}

1. Important Terms from Chapter IV: memory holes Records Department rectifying or rectification unperson Comrade Ogilvy

2. What sort of work does Winston perform at his job? Answer this question and then use 2 CDs to support your answer. (CDs must be written down word for word from the chapter, using quotation marks and page numbers).

Explain the significant meaning of this concrete detail from 1984: “It struck him as curious that you could create dead men but not living ones. Comrade Ogilvy, who had never existed in the present, now existed in the past, and when once the act of forgery was forgotten, he would exist just as authentically, and upon the same evidence, as Charlemagne or Julius Caesar” (48).
