Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period WMO RAVI WG CH Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period

WMO RAVI – Task Team Hydrological Modeling, Forecasting and Warming Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period Task 1: Improving flash flood forecasting and warning E.g. link WMO FFG with EFAS and use the developments of flash flood forecasting in EFAS; Task 2: (Assess the need for) impact based warnings Task 3:Validation of forecasts (including ensemble forecasts) Furthermore: seek connections with regional and global warnings systems like EFAS and GLOFAS. Deliverables: i) questionnaires to monitor the situation (needs) in the region; ii) prepare proposals, recommendations and guidelines; iii) workshop/workshop report   Budget requirements: travel budget for workshop participants How many countries would benefit from this activities: all countries in the region VI Connections to other TT’s: mainly to TT Water Scarcity and Drought

WMO RAVI – Task Team Data Operations and Management Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period (1) Two option were presented: If there is a separate activity only on hydrology: Adaptation to new hydrometric monitoring technologies (including: sharing best practice in operational procedures and; engagement in the CHy Global Hydrometry Support Facility’s Innovation Hub Improving data management and data exchange systems (focus on RAVI implementation of the CHy WHOS, including a number of pilots) Hydrometric network design and optimization (linking to the CHy work on hydrometric network design and building on the Hydrology Forum’s work on case studies for surface water network design). b) If there remains a joint Climate and Hydrology activity: Maintaining the promotion of data rescue activities Promoting the use of proxy data for the reconstruction of long time-series Promoting sharing of advances in homogeneity methods and missing data estimation

WMO RAVI – Task Team Data Operations and Management Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period (2) Deliverable of set b) are more at national level and not at TT level. It has been also underlined the lack of human resources in NHMS to accomplish data rescue and similar activities. Once identified the full list of activities it will be possible to decide how to better arrange the work under this theme, e.g keep the joint TT or establish a new TT on hydrometry and network design.

WMO RAVI – Task Team on Water Scarcity and Drought Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period   Task 1: Water accounting methodologies Task 2.2: Use of seasonal forecasts for water resources management Task 3: Guidance for assessing water scarcity and drought (impacts for water resources management) Deliverables: i) workshop or webinar; ii) report; iii)Distance learning course on water accounting; iv)collaboration platform Budget: costs for distance learning course and participations to workshop to be supported by the WMO Secretariat.

WMO RAVI – Task Team Agricultural Meteorology Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period Task 1: New and approaching technologies for agrometeorological services considering the full food chain (i.e. tracking, drohnes, measurement/information systems, use of new remote sensing products) Task 2: Developments, challenges and potentials in agrometeorological forecasting and monitoring methods for tailored agrometeorological services (i.e. irrigation, operational warning/forecast systems, NWF based forecasts) Task 3: Inventory on needs for agrometeorological data bases and service/products promotion (i.e. reference data base of agromet. parameters, impact database (on crops), cost/benefit of service/products) Deliverables: a)Report on i) actual developments (literature, expert survey); ii) implemented applications (case studies of good practices); iii) agrometeorological data gaps for improving services b)Case studies on economic evaluation of services/products c) Recommendations /good practices for regional communication platforms (allowing stakeholder interactions – improving and promotion of services) Budget: Consulting an economist; Meeting costs (1 expert meeting) Cooperation: TT Water scarcity and Drought. Submitting new COST action.

Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period WMO RAVI – Task Team Regional Climate Centres and Regional Climate Outlook Forums Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period   Task 1: Strengthen the service dimension in RCC/RCOFs products and services (including the needs for new products, improvement of the feedback process and all related CSIS aspects, ...) Task 2: Incorporate the C3S issues inside the RCC/RCOFs processes. (including the impact on the governance) Task 3: Introduce the climate change dimension into the RCC/RCOFs port-folio. The proposal is valid insofar the structure of TT is maintained. It is also possibly contributing to GFCS and respond to the request done to PRAs to include in RWGs activities support to GFCS implementation

WMO RAVI – Task Team Climate Watch Systems Proposal for future activities in the next intersession period   Task 1: Finalizing of the document “Guidance for Climate Watch implementation at regional, sub-regional and national level” will need several additional iterations. Task 2: Develop methods and mechanisms to analyze requirements and feedback on effectiveness, gaps and improvement of Climate Watch implementation at regional, sub-regional and national level based on the pilot projects,
