Confirmation Celebrating Growth in the Spirit What does it celebrate: That the Holy Spirit operates in subtle ways throughout people’s lives It is one special moment when Christians consciously acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and are given the fullness of the Spirit’s grace Caring people are recognized as bearers of God’s spirit and “confirmers” of one another’s gifts

The Breath of God, the Holy Spirit, is an old Hebrew term meaning “wind” or “breath of God” Confirmation gives us the seven (7) gifts of the Holy Spirit (see pages 162-163): Wisdom Understanding Right Judgment Courage Knowledge Reverence Wonder & Awe in God’s Presence

Who may be confirmed? To be confirmed requires a person’s full intention and willingness. Besides being baptized and being of the age of discretion, a person must be: Willing to profess the Catholic faith In a state of grace, that is, forgiven of an grave sins through Baptism and/or Penance Intending to receive the sacrament, and Willing to take on the role of a disciple of Christ

Watch video “Catholic Confirmation” # 1 & The Ritual of confirmation: its symbolic actions and words (see pages 166 – 170) : The laying on of hands Anointing with Chrism (the special consecrated oil also used in Baptism) Watch video “Catholic Confirmation” # 1 & 2 and part of #3 Remember: Read the 1st ten pages of each chapter!
