Trans-European networks rather than national policy 2016

1994 Pan-European Corridors

2014 TEN-T Core Network

Criteria for Trans European Connections Connecting urban agglomerations with 2 Mio or more inhabitants. There are only around 15 of such mega settlements all over Europe. Target destinations should have at least 300,000 inhabitants. Mainly offered by sea-port cities around Europe. Interoperability should be offered with multi-modal nodes. Geostrategic junctions and ports along navigable inland waterways provide these characteristics throughout Europe. Main transport lines serve as backbones for regional development. A higher-level transport system boosts economy especially at well positioned logistic points along the routes. Transport of passengers and goods follow the same criteria.
