Development of BOCES Services Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES Board of Cooperative Educational Services Development of BOCES Services

How does a district express interest in creating a new service? Superintendent Expresses Interest. Discussion Takes Place with Other Superintendents. If Sufficient Interest Exists, BOCES Staff Research the Area of Interest and Provide Baseline Information on a Possible Service. A Workgroup is formed – Usually led by the Deputy Superintendent or Director of Management and Finance. This Workgroup Includes BOCES Staff and Component District Staff. Additional Agencies are Engaged as Applicable. Cooperative Service Description is Developed and Submitted to NYSED. This Includes Information on Projected Service Costs. Once Approved by NYSED, Districts Sign upThrough our Annual Service Request Process.

Why Adult Literacy? Parents are their children’s first “teachers”. Parents with stronger literacy skills are more likely to send young students to school ready to learn and provide better support to school-aged children of all ages. Increased adult literacy improves the quality of the workforce and supports economic development.
