Analysis of radio dramas Alice Murray

Open season Setting: Small town called Vermont in Canada. Characterisation: Male lieutenant works in the police department. Doesn’t get much work other than people thieving and car break ins. He gets a big case to work on but gets stuck in a snow storm. Music: Introducing theme tune at the beginning. Sound of cars, sirens, slamming doors, walking, whistling, dog barking. Speech & Words: Male speaking in first person. Two men having a conversation. Main narrator talking has quite a deep and manly voice. Silence: No silence is used to break up the scenes.

The Blind Man’s Confession Setting: The setting is set in the first few minute of the clip, the first couple of minutes we realise he is having a flashback. The narrator starts talking and says ‘let me tell you how it started’ and we can hear rain and what sounds like a thunderstorm. You can hear fast cars and the narrator says it happened in October. Characterisation: the main character talking has quite a young sounding voice, he is telling the story and giving flashbacks to parts of the story. Music: Music used in this is more created by sound effects rather than actual music playing in the background. The sound effects help set the scene and give the audience an idea of the atmosphere being created. Silence: The use of silence has been used a lot to create an atmosphere.
