Smarter Balance Assessment System Summative assessments – designed for accountability purposes Interim assessments – designed to support teaching and learning throughout the year Digital library – designed to support classroom-based formative assessment processes

CAASPP California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress Summative assessments are comprehensive end of year assessments of grade level learning CCSS aligned content assessed ELA and Math grades 3-8 State standards Science assessed in grades 5 and 8, last year Student performance is reported in an overall score and achievement level
