Bayou Teche - April 2016 Estimated 12,000 gallons of crude oil was discharged into Bayou Teche. Unique challenges included tide changes affecting collection sites; limited skimmer offloading locations; access required transiting through spill zones. The lack of current maximized booming strategies, resulting in higher skimmer density and high overall recovery rate.

Green Canyon 248 - May 2016 Estimated 88,000 gallons of crude oil was discharged from a subsea pipeline. Clean-up involved 5 response vessels recovering 76,692 gallons of oily water mixture. Recovery operations lasted 6 days. Coast Guard and OSRO personnel logged roughly 85 hours of flight time directing response vessels. Response was significantly aided by ideal weather conditions. During response Coast Guard personnel conducted numerous over flights, decon supervision and UC positions. During a 15 day response CG personnel logged 895 man hours of work and spent approx. $263.000 on personnel and assets.

Vessel decontamination plan was approved to include use of “lift and float” surface washing agent PES-51. PES-51 was applied with common garden sprayer and wiped free. Vessel decon efforts in Port Fourchon lasted 8 days. Current efforts include RRT Pre-Approval for Surface Washing Agents in Port Fourchon. Currently, Houston is sole pre-approved location in GOM.

Towing vessel capsized in Bayou Boeuf discharging an estimated 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Vessel came to rest at an angle which maximized discharge through tank vent. Fortunately, fuel discharged into a confined area allowing ideal recovery access. Vessel’s insurance contracted OSRO, clean-up lasted approx 5 days. Bayou Boeuf - June 2016

Mercury Release – July 2016 Berwick Police, Fire and Levee District received report of Mercury like substance discovered on a levee. State Police Haz-Mat and MSU Morgan City also responded. Reporting Party was interviewed, no Responsible Party could be determined. CERCLA fund was opened to initiate clean-up to reduce public risk. 3 day clean-up cost nearly $8000. Material testing was positive for Mercury.
