Analyzing the causes and results of the Spanish civil war results: effects outcome: who won By Rusha Sen and Belle Feldmayer

Thesis: THROUGH THE Cultural DIVISION between THE BASQUE AND Catalan And Government instability,WHICH CAUSED THE SPANISH WAR, ENDED WITH THE RESULT OF THE NATIONALISTS OVERTHROWING THE REPUBLICAN GOVERNMENT.

Causes

THE CULTURE DIVISION OF THE BASQUE AND CATHALAM Topic Sentence: The culture division of the Basque and Cathalam caused uproar and violence amongst and within the country. Separatism in which the richer areas of Catalonia and Basque desired autonomy/independence and had their own language/culture. It led to a desire for change due to starvation and fear of the elite. Caused due to the socio-economic effects in Spain after World War Two. Importance of ethnic nationalism

The second republic 1931-1936 Government Instability Topic Sentence: The second republic started as a left republic, however the government leaders switched often leading to government instability. Left Republic: April 1931 - November 1933 Left took office first: the Republicans, under a man named Azana. They widely reformed: started secular education/abolished support of Church ; Reduced army size/number of officers ; allowed autonomy for Catalonia and land reforms for peasants. Azana's Republican government crumbled in September 1933, and following elections were won by the right. Right Republic: November 1933 - February 1936 New Radical CEDA government reversed the reforms of the Left Republic in what was called the ''two black years'' Violent repression against the left: an example is how Francisco Franco's Army of Africa crushed an Anarchist uprising in the Asturias coalfield in October 1934.

Result

THE NATIONALISTS OVERTHROWING THE REPUBLICAN GOVERNMENT. Topic Sentence: Throughout the civil war, the Nationalists better organization and good communication which helped them win against the Republicans. The Republicans lacked strong military leadership. There was no unified command and the communists and anarchists would not work together.  In areas under anarchist control, industries, public utilities and transport were taken over by workers’ committees and in the countryside collective farms were set up.  The international body known as the Non-Intervention Committee (NIC) was established by Britain and France in 1936 for the purpose of preventing the foreign influx of support to the warring parties in Spain.
