Statement of Inquiry How do we understand the worlds in which we live?

Introduction (According to Global Context Paper) Trevor Reese Introduction (According to Global Context Paper) Trevor Reese - 1st Slide (4 & 5) Sophia Whitman - 2nd and 3rd Slide (6 & 7) Everybody - 4th Slide (8) Sarah Tushinski - 5th Slide (9) Cullan Quinn - 6th Slide (10)

Global Context What it means: Trevor Reese Global Context What it means: Students will explore the natural world and its laws the interaction between people and the natural world how humans use their understanding of scientific principles the impact of scientific and technological advances on communities and environments the impact of environments on human activity how humans adapt environments to their needs. Compact and bullet the definition so it is easier to present. Source: www.hydeparkcps.org/ourpages/auto/2013/6/11/42942672/Global%2520Context%2520Explanations.docx+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Global Context Connotation List Industrial - One definition of industry is “hard work”, so we thought this was important because nothing can be done without some element of hard work, especially when it comes to science because it involves many aspects of research, analysis, etc. Transformation - When things are changed, they are also transformed, which means a thorough change in form. Past technologies must have been changed to be in the modern form they are in now. For instance, use computers, and how much they have changed in size. Technology - Application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. This shows that industry and technology are related. Creativity - This involves original ideas which can be used for almost anything nowadays. For example, Steve Jobs thought about the Macintosh from his own mind. Process - A series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. This is similar to the scientific method, in which you must go through steps to get your idea finalized. Research - The systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. This is used to transform and develop ideas even further than previously. Organization - Arranged into a structured order. This means that everything is put into a systematic order which makes it easier for people to read, understand, comprehend, etc. Systems - A set of principles or procedures according to which something is done. This is very similar to organization, but it is very important to innovations because if there were no systems, it would be very hard to keep everything in place, and information or ideas could get lost or forgotten. Science - The intellectual activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. This is important because in order to innovate anything, you need to know each component of the original to know how it works and what makes it work. Development - Everything must be developed, and it is very important in the technological field because there must be trial and error, which creates development each time something changes. Trevor Reese Industrial Transformation Technology Organic Science Creativity Organization Business Process Development

Sophia Whitman How does Scientific and Technical Innovations Apply to Our World Today? Scientific and Technical Innovations apply to our world today in many ways. One being, humans use multiple resources from our natural environment, for example, wood. Wood is used for homes, industrial buildings, furniture, etc. The use of this organic material is relevant to Scientific and Technical Innovations because humans adapt to the environment by using what it consists of to benefit their needs. Scientific and Technical Innovations is a massive part of the way we live our lives.

Why is this Global Context Important? Sophia Whitman Why is this Global Context Important? The global context, Scientific and Technical Innovations, is important because we as humans interact with the environment in some way everyday of our lives. We use the modern technologies the environment has created for our personal needs. For instance: Electronics (phones, laptops, etc.) Automobiles (cars, trucks, airplanes, etc.) Gasoline

Relevance of global context Everybody Relevance of global context Trevor-Scientific and technical innovations are very important in the modern world. This is true because of how reliant most of us are on technology. Most humans nowadays don’t fully understand the world in which we live, but it is mainly the ones that study it that understand it. Sophia-Scientific and Technical Innovations relate to our world in many ways. In this case, the environment is a gigantic part of this particular global context. Our world uses both the natural environment (wood, fossil fuels)and modern technology (electronics, automobiles)constantly. Cullan- Scientific and Technical innovations are crucial to us because of how much we rely on them. For example everyone in here most likely uses their phone at least once a day for an abundance of reasons. Sarah- The innovations in science and technology can help in the modern world. With the fast past life of humans we need science and technology to keep up. If technological advancements ever fall behind, the world could fall into madness as the outdated technology would not be able to catch up, like the new innovative technology would.

Our Two Questions Some questions we came up with were: Sarah Tushinski Our Two Questions Some questions we came up with were: How can the improvement of scientific and technology impact our world and our lives? How will scientific and technical advancements create a different world around us in the next couple of years?

Cullan Quinn Expectations Slide I expect scientific and technological innovation to help my learning in mr. Thornburg's class in many ways. Such as using the chromebooks to improve our learning. Outside of the classroom technological innovations are used every day to improve the tiniest of tasks. I expect to learn more about technological advancements Also how people use technology in their daily lifes.
