Design Floor Plan- a drawing of a room and how it’s furniture is arranged. Allows you to see how furniture fits together without actually moving any furniture. Scale Floor Plan- a drawing that shows the size and shape of a room. The next slide is an example of a scale floor plan.

Movement Traffic Pattern- Path people take to move around within a room as well as exit and enter the room. The next slide is an example of traffic pattern.

Flow Space around furniture- doors and drawers need extra space for opening and closing. Functional Arrangements- functional groupings of furniture and other item arrangements are useful and convenient. Notice in the next two slides the grouping of furniture and space around the furniture.

Neatness Routine- regular cleaning tasks are those that must be done every day. Cleaning plan- plan that can help you and your family manage cleaning tasks.

What is the focal point of a room? It is the first thing that you notice when you walk into a room. What is a traffic pattern? How people can move around the furniture and go from room to room.

Tips for arranging furniture Decide on your focal point. (Bring in your largest piece first. Identify traffic patterns. Decide on the use of the room Don’t block doorways, windows, or view to other rooms.
