This forum: A veritable platform An opportunity to contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the motion picture industry in Nigeria Bringing to fore how content providers can tap into the digital economy. Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

The following statement, according to Internet Society, has simplified what we are here for; ‘we envision a future in which people in all parts of the world can use the Internet to improve their quality of life, because standards, technologies, business practices, and government policies sustain an open and universally accessible platform for innovation, creativity, and economic opportunity.’ Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

Internet is a vital tool that enhances marketability of our products in the film Industry. Therefore it must not be overlooked because it acts as a medium among producers, marketers and the end users. Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

Advantages of Internet Global Audience Operates 24/7 Relatively Inexpensive Product Advertising Distribute Product Catalogs Online Surveys Announcements Provide Technical Support Obtain Customer Feedback Immediate Distribution of Information Easy Integration with Internal Information Systems Powerful Content Publishing Tools Multimedia Formatting Capabilities Financial Gains from well-developed and acceptable content Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

Broadband Over 1.2 billion active mobile broadband users worldwide 90% of the world’s population had access to 2G broadband 45% of the world had 3G coverage, according to the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) For the whole of Africa, we have 167,335,676 estimated Internet users for 2012 Q2. Internet Users as at 30th June, 2012 for Nigeria stood at 48,366,178 Penetration (% Population) at 28.4% Internet (% Africa) at 28.9% While 5,860,240 were recorded to have used the popular social media Facebook as at 30th September, 2012. Challenges Associated With The Use of .ng Domain Name Indifference Security Infrastructures: Servers to store Digital Videos (Trailers) National Broadband Networks Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

“A lot of opportunities abound in online business, if done with the right technology tools and through the right ways.” - According to Mr. Ope Odusan, the Chief Operating Officer of NIRA. Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

The .ng domain name is our own identity on cyberspace and a national resource that should be used in Nigeria rather than give more popularity to other foreign country code top level domains.   Film production and marketing will only be more interesting if we all encourage and promote our own country code top level domain name. Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

I therefore urge us all to use our own .ng domain. “People will not use your domain unless you have contents they want. We should look at what the world need, then develop our own local contents to promote the .ng domain and grow our economy.” – Mr. Biyi Oladipo, member of the Executive Board of NiRA. I therefore urge us all to use our own .ng domain. Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013

Thank you. Paper Presented at NiRA’s Local Internet Content Forum, Lagos. April 25th – 26th, 2013
