2nd Grade NEWSLETTER October Barnard Elementary School This month in Math and Science This month in ELA During English Language Arts we will be focusing on WEATHER! We will read about various weather conditions while our focus will be examining text features. In PHONICS we will focus on closed syllables, blends, r- controlled words, and vowel teams. We encourage all students to be logging on to MyOn at home to read for 20 minutes each night. -Go to Clever.com Eureka is off and popping! We have completed the first two modules with Sums and Differences to 100 and Measurement. We are excited about the next few modules on Place Value. Everything has a value and NUMBERS are included. Students will explore, identify, observe, and compare numbers to 1,000! Please continue to study and master addition and subtraction facts. In Science, we are completing Plants are Everywhere and will start Weather Watching soon. Dates to remember: Reminders: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Ms. Medley is a SURVIVOR! Have you had your mammogram? THURSDAYS the students begin their day with specials classes (P.E., Spanish, Art, & Music). Teachers are in weekly meetings. October 4: Second Graders are going to the pumpkin patch as a culminating activity for plants. October 9: No school Columbus Day October 15: Hispanic Heritage Month ends Thank You, Ms. Medley, Mrs. Braxton, Mr. LaCaille, Ms. Ragland, Ms. Tannenbaum, and Ms. Jeong
