South and East Asia Climate Why people live where they do…

SG: The climate of India is affected by seasonal winds called monsoons.

SG: Most of the people of India live along the great rivers and fertile valleys .

SG: The mountain ranges have often protected India from northern invaders affecting the country’s development.

SG: Many of the people of India live in the Ganges River Valley because the river provides fertile soil for farming.

SG: The best way to describe the climate of China is hot, dry, rainy, subtropical, mild, and temperate.

SG: Most Chinese live in an area of the country with milder climates.

SG: Ocean currents have a major effect on Japan’s climate.

SG: The farmers of Japan have been able to raise crops on land that is very mountainous and they have built terraces among the mountain slopes.

SG: The best way to describe the geography and climate of North Korea is mountainous and cool.

SG: Most of the people of North Korea live in the western half of the country because the area has more farmland and fewer mountains.

SG: The best way to describe the geography and climate of South Korea is a mix of mountains, rivers, and valleys.

SG: Almost 25 percent of the people in South Korea live in and around Seoul because the city provides markets, jobs, and education not available in rural areas.

SG: The warm and tropical climate makes Vietnam ideal for growing rice.
