HOW TO DEAL WITH OUR ANXIETIES Philippians 4:6-7 1 Peter 5:5-7 Matthew 6:25-34

Lessons from these texts: Philippians 4:6-7—Through prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving God will grant you peace. 1 Peter 5:5-7—If you humble yourself to God He will take care of you. Matthew 6:25-34—We must seek God first, and then our worries will diminish.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 11:28 Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches.

Paul’ prayers for the churches: Romans 1:8 1 Corinthians 1:4 Ephesians 1:15-19 Philippians 1:3-4, 9-11 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 2 Thessalonians 1:3

Ephesians 5:15-19 For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

Philippians 1:3-4, 9-11 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all…And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:5-7 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Psalm 55:22-23 Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. But You, O God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction; men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.

Verses from Deuteronomy that speak of God’s “mighty hand” 3:24 6:21 9:26 4:34 7:8 11:2 5:15 7:19 26:8

Matthew 6:25-29 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these...

Matthew 6:30-34 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Jesus’ arguments about worry: Life is about more than just physical needs God takes care of the birds and the grass, He surely will take care of you. Stressing about life’s little problems will not fix them.

Lessons from the texts: Philippians 4:6-7—Through prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving you will get peace. 1 Peter 5:5-7—If you humble yourself to God He will take care of you. Matthew 6:25-34—We must seek God first, and then our worries will diminish.
