Government A government is the organization through which a political unit exercises its authority, controls and administers public policy, and directs and controls the actions of its members or subjects.

Types of Government Democracy: People directly vote and represent themselves. Ex. Town meeting;ancient Greece Republic: government in which people have the right to vote for leaders to represent them Ex. United States/Representative Government

More types Absolute Monarcy: Kings or Queens have complete authority over the government and people. Inherited Ex. Midevial Europe/Feudalism/France Theocracy: Priests or religious leaders serve as kings. Ex. Ancient Greek and Roman

More extreme forms Communism: Common ownership of property Ex.Cuba, China, Vietnam. Totaltarianimsm/Dictatorship: Single party dicatator controls every aspect of daily life. Not inherited. Ex. Hitler, Iraq

More extreme examples Oligarchy: A small group exercises control Constitutional Monarchy: Has a legislative body and ceremonial figureheads. Ex. England Anarchy: Lack of a government system Ex. Somalia French Revolution, English Civil War.
