Sustainability Summit 2017 SWaN- The Sustainable Warwick Network: Creating a more prolific environment for post-graduate students engaged with sustainability related topics at the University of Warwick HI all, I am Tina from the WMG department at University of Warwick. I am happy to talk to you today and get the chance to introduce our new established Network Group here at Warwick Campus. Felipe Cicaroni Fernandes 3rd Year PhD Student Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing Group, WMG, University of Warwick, UK SWaN

Inspirations (1): First contact with NESSE at ACS Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference in 2016, Portland, USA. Idea of a global network of Early-Career Researchers Inspired by the initiatives created by the Sustainable Science Groups:

What has been developed at Warwick in terms of sustainability? University level: Environmental Sustainability Team Partnership with Estates to reduced environmental impact, awareness campaigns. – Improvement in Ecological Handprint Academic level: Sustainable Cities Global Research Priorities, Global Sustainable Development Department Partnership between academics, BASc single honours course in GSD (first in the world!) Student level: Sustainable Development Society, Climate Change Society…. …But nothing at Post-Graduate level (which accounts for almost 40 % of the student force on campus!)

Questions that motivated us: Inspirations (2): Questions that motivated us: How can we burst the bubble that isolates us ? Is there anyone here to help me? How to maximise research impact via collaboration? How to impact our society? SWaN- The Sustainable Warwick Network: Our initiative to try filling the gap.

About Us - SWaN Mission: Vision: Values: “To connect early-career researchers across different faculties in the University of Warwick to promote sustainability-related activities that will impact the campus academically and socially.” Vision: “A highly collaborative research community united to tackle sustainability-related challenges at Warwick” Values: Collaboraton– We value highly collaborative research to maximise research impact and efficiency; Integration – We are commited to promote creative and friendly environments where researchers can integrate their research; Empower – We strive to prove early-career scientists with the tools and skills required to succeed in the area of sustainability.

Registration: go.warwick.ac.uk/SWaN What we want to offer for PG students: We want to offer a friendly environment where students can talk: Networking: First event : 20th October, 10:30 – 11:30, at “The Graduate” Get people to know topics researched at Warwick and how we can collaborate Seminar covering current challenges in academia / industry Outreach opportunities in partnership with other initiatives Registration: go.warwick.ac.uk/SWaN
