DNA Replication Learning Goal 1
Base Pairing Rule of base pairing: A always pairs with T G always pairs with C A T T A G C C G
DNA Replication To replicate means to make an exact copy DNA Replication is how your cells make exact copies of your DNA Your cells cannot make a mistake 1% error would be fatal
Review What is the base pairing rule? What does replication mean? What is DNA replication
DNA Replication Before your cells can make copies of your DNA, first they must unravel (unzip) your DNA strand
DNA Replication After DNA unzips, the enzyme named DNA polymerase builds 2 new strands and attaches them to the separated old strands DNA polymerase uses the base pairing rule. Each new DNA is ½ old and ½ new (semi-conservative)
Review What is the first thing that needs to happen before DNA is copied? What is the enzyme that copies DNA? What rule does the enzyme use? What does semi-conservative mean?
