MEGA CITIES IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD A WORLD CITY

WORLD CITIES There are 4 main types of World Cities:- PAGE 111 FISH BOOK WORLD CITIES There are 4 main types of World Cities:- Major capitals and commercial cities in MEDC’s (core regions) Major capitals and commercial cities in LEDC’s (the semi-periphery) Less important capitals and commercial cities Less important developing world cities USE THE TEXT BOOK TO GIVE EXAMPLES OF EACH ONE OF THESE. What do you notice about their distribution?

Global connections The key to the role of these World cities is that they do not exist in isolation but are linked and connected to other cities in the World. The connections between these cities hold the global economy together. People living outside the cities depend on them for certain goods and services and are connected to the city. Perhaps we should now think of the world as a ‘global city’ and not just a global village.

Case study of a MEDC city Choose EITHER London OR Los Angeles London Los Angeles Plus your own research Globe book page 118 to 121 Fish book page 110 to 115
