United’s Generational Handoff What’s Required for the future? Current Pilots Newly Hired Pilots 12,000 What’s Required for the future? 9,000 75% 25% 75% 25% Pilots MENTORING 6,000 50% 3,000 2012 2020 2028 2039 Slide Description Handoff Slide again Objective Visual demo of the need to transfer knowledge to the future. Facilitation Strategy Back to this graph again, here we are at 2016. We just talked about the fact that we need Teamwork to operate safely today. But what is required for the future? (Point to left , blue area of table) We said at the beginning that we have the most experienced group of pilots that the industry has ever had or will potentially ever will have. We have a limited amount of time available to transfer all that knowledge and experience to the future generation. How are we going to do that? <CLICK> Mentoring. Because of the industry dynamics we talked about at the beginning, a lot of us have had the luxury of working with pilots who are extremely experienced in our operation – often 15, 20 years or more in their seat. We have to get ready to reset our expectations. We have to be prepared to teach some real fundamentals again in a way that many of us have not had to do in a long time. And, we have to teach ALL of you Captains to be ready to do the same thing. There is a lot of NEW coming, and we have to mentally prepare every captain that they need to be ready to be instructors. We are building a small teams for safety every day, but at the same time, we are building a big team for the long term, for the future. Slide transition But you, Captains, may be asking yourself this question… <CLICK> to next slide Today 2025

Mentoring ALPA Code of Ethics “He will regard himself as a debtor to his profession and ALPA, and will dedicate himself to their advancement.” “He will cooperate in the upholding of the profession by exchanging information and experience with his fellow pilots.”
