Antifouling Paints… are hazardous contain chemicals which reduce / prevent fouling fall under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) need to undergo approval in 2017-19 must be used carefully, with protection (PPE) can damage the environment (waste paint, scrapings etc.) are used safely by DIY-ers in the UK (our survey last year)
What happens if we don’t antifoul? Potential threat to local ecosystems, including loss of threatened native species Invasive Species transfer “ any significant growth of fouling has an immediate effect on your boat’s performance and efficiency” “On powerboats even a light build-up of fouling can increase fuel consumption by 30%” Motorboat and Yachting magazine Increased Global warming Asian Sea Squirt
