Fluid Friction Friction exists between solids and fluids (liquids or gases). The particles of the fluid provide resistance thus creating friction. For example, a plane travelling through the air has to overcome the friction of the air particles it is passing through.

A skin-tight super swimsuit, designed with the aid of Formula 1 technology and a Hollywood special effects team, was unwrapped yesterday. At a worldwide launch, Katy Sexton and Mark Foster (UK) wriggled into the suits, to demonstrate the drag-defying, shark-like properties of the £250 suits. Source: The Guardian, March 9th 2004
