NASA’s U.S Rosetta, DSN and the Navajo School District U.S. Rosetta – June 4, 2011 Fourteen members of the Chinle, AZ unified school district (teachers, medicine men and the district Superintendent) participated in an Educator Workshop. The workshop focused on four areas: geology, astronomy, radio science, and botany. This workshop was the first part of a JPL-Chinle collaboration for a  four week Chinle school district summer academy for 50 pre-registered students grades 5-9 starting June 6, 2011.  This workshop represents a significant step in progress toward establishing a working outreach program with the Navajo in the Chinle School district. The Workshop presenters were Claudia Alexander, Rosetta Project Scientist, Shannon McConnell, NASA DSN,  Mr. Clifford Arnold (Geo-Botanist Chinle, AZ) and Gwendolyn Wagner (Physics-Graduate Student Dine University).
