ADVERB Adverb is a word which modifies (gives more information about) a verb or adjective or other adverb. It simply tells the readers how, where, when, and how many times action occur.

Types of Adverb Adverbs of Manner Adverbs of Place Adverbs of Time Adverbs of Frequency

Adverbs of Manner These adverbs tell us that in which manner the action occurs or how the action occurs or occurred or will occur. Adverbs of Manner Example Loudly She speaks loudly. Slowly He was driving slowly. Correctly  You replied correctly. Calmly Students have to walk calmly in the school. Easily They solved the problem easily. Carefully Listen to me carefully.

Not all words ending in –ly are adverbs Not all words ending in –ly are adverbs. A few adverbs exists without “-ly”. For example, fast, slow, deep, far, hard, high, wrong, right, low, well, tight, straight, there, here, close, late, very, too, not. Adverbs of Manner Example Fast He said that he always drives fast. Hard He wanted to know the difference between working hard and working smart. Together Let’s do over this report together. Well Chewing our food well may be one of the simple acts to help our digestion.

Adverb of Place Adverb of place tells us about the place of action or where action occurs/occurred/will occur.

Adverb of Place Example Here There He will come here. He is watching the football match there. In Alma works in Bandung for a while. Near He was standing near the wall. north/ south/ east/ west  My apartment faces north. They built a house ten miles west of Cilegon. To I’m on a flight to Jakarta. Adverb of Time These adverbs tell us about the time of action. Example Now Please call me later, I’m studying now. Today Athiya arrives from Osaka today. From… to/until She’ll prepare for the final test from now to the next saturday. Since The factory has operated since 1983. Ago They sent a box of tiramisu cake to me eleven days ago. Last I paid a call my friend in the hospital last week. Yesterday He got the birthday surprise party yesterday.

Adverb of Frequency Adverbs of frequency tell us how many times the action occurs or occurred or will occur.
