Will grayson, Will Grayson First and Last Name Class and Period Book Project #1

Synopsis: Will Grayson, Will Grayson written by John Green and David Levithan is an unlikely story of two high school boys named Will Grayson that live in separate towns, but whose lives get intertwined by an internet relationship hoax. The book switches between the two perspectives every other chapter. The boys are totally different, one is homosexual and one is straight, but both go an incredible journey to find love (although not with each other).

Review: Positives: Negatives: -Totally unique characters (homosexual football player called Tiny, bi-polar depressed protagonist, etc). -important themes about acceptance -multiple perspectives (rotating POV each chapter) -hard to empathize with protagonist -unrealistic ending -overdramatic characters

Conflict: Character versus Self “tiny cooper. tiny cooper. i am saying his name over and over in my head” (138). Explanation: This is when bipolar Will starts to fall in love with Tiny– he is so excited to have finally found someone he cares about. This is a turning point in the novel because Will stops being so depressed and starts to believe in himself.

Conflict: Character versus Self “i want to tell him: nobody ever told me how to deal with things like this” (245). This is when Tiny and Will break up because Will doesn’t know how to handle all the emotions connected to a relationship. He isn’t ready to vocalize the issues he is dealing with, so the relationship ends.

Conflict: Character versus Self “gideon: ready? the answer to this question is always going to be no. but i have to do it anyway” (303). This comes from the final scene in the book when Will have finally decided he needs to be brave and reveal that he appreciates Tiny. This public display of affection is the total opposite guy from the beginning of the novel.
