HALLOWEEN The way of the day

he will have the light of life'. Jesus said, ’I am the light of the world; anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dark; he will have the light of life'. - John 8:12

What immediately comes to mind when you think of Halloween What immediately comes to mind when you think of Halloween? Probably, like most people, it is the images of witches and ghosts and so on: images of darkness and death. In fact Halloween ('All Hallows Eve'), the evening of the 31st October, is the vigil (beginning) of the feast of All Saints - the feast in which we celebrate the glory of God in His saints.

Tonight, many Christian's will hold a 'Night of Light' celebration by way of being a Light to the World, rather than celebrating darkness and death. Children will dress up as saints, have a party and treats and maybe a bonfire. They will put a candle and a picture of the risen Christ in their windows to show their allegiance to the light of Christ, rather than the darkness of death.

We thank you for your many blessings, We pray together Heavenly Father, We thank you for your many blessings, in particular forall the holy men and women we celebrate on All Saints Day. Help us to contemplate their holiness on this eve of that holiday. And may your protection be upon all those involved in Halloween festivities during this night. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.

In the name of the Father, The Sign of the Cross In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
