My Resources

Session Objective The goal and objective of this session is to help communicators systematically, theologically, and fundamentally think through the process of sermon prep and delivery. The aim of this session is to provide practical tools and insights to help you prepare a message that will engage and impact youth culture.

Personally Know who you are and to be true to YOUR calling Have balance in your life between people you mentor, who mentor you, and the friends you journey with. To make lifestyle choices that promotes your mental, physical, spiritual, and social/emotional health.

Theologically 2 Timothy 4:2-5 ”Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine; instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them with a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

Fundamentally Commit to a spirit of prayer and excellence when it comes to preparing your message (Non-negotiable: Set aside uninterrupted time to prep for message) Your message must be inspired by the Holy Spirit, not by the spirit of self. “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of the Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Don’t neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.” 1 Timothy 4:13-14 (NIV))

Fundamentally Commit to knowing your audience. Get on campuses and study the culture What are the major issues within your youth ministry Commit to diversifying yourself. Topics, Style, Stories, Utilize Students Don’t be predictable Commit to speak the Word with authority. Don’t be afraid to deal with the “tough issues”

Systematically Spend time in prayer Use bullet points to organize your thoughts Be simple and persuasive Use relevant and catchy titles for your message Be creative and illustrative. Incorporate dramas in your message Live the lifestyle you preach about Don’t be long winded. The average attention span of a teenager is not very long. By led by the Spirit of God; not the spirit of self.

A Good Communicator Impacting -You make a difference where you serve Investing -You put quality into what you are doing Imparting -You give of yourself to others Inspiring -You influence others Integrity -Your lifestyle must line up with the Word and when others aren’t looking Intercessor -You must pray on behalf of others
