CA Common Core Standards OLD CA State Standards NEW Common Core Standards A mile-wide-inch deep curriculum More focused content and deeper thinking The R’s: Rote Memorization Regurgitation of facts The C’s: Critical Thinking Communication Collaboration Creativity Sage-on-the-stage-based classroom Guide-on-the-side teaching A quiet obedience-based classroom An interactive collaboration-based culture Bubble-based STAR Testing Computer-based Smarter Balanced Assessment (Starting in 3rd grade) Common Core standards encompass the same fundamentals as the previous CA State standards. However, Common Core emphasizes Thinking Deeply, Integrating Learning, and having students Show What they Know and How they know it. Common Core stresses the following 4 C’s: Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, and Creativity. The goal is to prepare ALL students to be college and career ready.
