Saponification Reaction in the preparation of soaps organic chemical reactions Known to ancient man Hydrolysis of the fats and oils occurs, yielding glycerol and crude soap. Hydrolysis = chemical decomposition in which a compound is split into other compounds by reacting with water.

Shampoo Formula

Industrial Manufacture fat is heated with sodium hydroxide. Once the saponification reaction is complete, sodium chloride is added to precipitate the soap.
