WATER CHEMISTRY TRAINING (part 1)
SANITIZERS & OXIDIZERS WHY DO WE USE THEM? To keep water healthy and clear – Low chlorine levels allow bacteria and algae to grow, allow the transmission of recreational water illnesses, and causes the pool to become cloudy. Shocking the pool also removes organic contaminates and chloramines that cause skin and eye irritation/redness.
SANITIZERS & OXIDIZERS What do we carry? Sanitizers – Chlorine Tabs Salt (for Salt Water Chlorine Generators) – (SWCG) Bromine Shocks – Liquid Shock (for vinyl liner and dark bottom pools) Insta Chlor (Used in white Gunite pools that use Chlorine tabs) Shimmer and Shock (Used in white Gunite pools that use SWCG) Chlor Free (Used in Vinyl liner, dark bottom, and Bromine pools)
SANITIZERS & OXIDIZERS When do we use them? Sanitizers – Are used up and must be replenished weekly. Tabs & Bromine: Refill feeder or add tabs to skimmer every week. Salt: Add only when SWCG or Salt Test shows Low Salt. Shock – Is used when Chlorine Test is below 3 parts per million (ppm), or when there is combines chlorine present.
SANITIZERS & OXIDIZERS How do we put them into the pool? Sanitizers – Tabs: Put in the chlorine feeder. Prior to opening the feed, turn the control to high, and run the pool for a few minutes. This prevents the chlorine fumes from being too strong when you take the cover off. Salt: (1) Turn OFF SWCG or to 0%. (2) Proceed to pour specified amount of salt bags into the shallow end of the pool, with the main drain ON. (3) Brush the salt around the pool to mix and dissolve. (4) Turn SWCG back ON.
