Objectives Describe the components of the post test HIV negative session Describe key tasks to be accomplished in the post test HIV negative session. 7-1

Provider-Initiated HIV Counseling and Testing Protocol Inform Test Result is Negative (4) Address Partner Referral and Motivate Patient to Reduce Risk (5) 7-2

Inform Test Result is Negative (4) Provide HIV test result simply & clearly Explain the meaning of HIV negative result Recommend an HIV test after 12 weeks for recent exposures (window period) 7-3

Address Partner Referral and Motivate Patient to Reduce Risk (5) Mention that HIV is common & the client need to take certain steps to stay un-infected Inform that partner should be referred for an HIV test Provide Preventive messages for HIV negative patients 7-4

Key Points for HIV Negative Patients Advise the patient to have a repeat HIV test in 12 weeks. Provide the following prevention messages:- - ask partner to be tested - both partners to be faithful to each other - not have sex until the partner is tested - use condoms every time they have sex with someone whom they do not know their status or is HIV positive Provide condom if available in the C&T room or provide information where to get it 7-5
