Welcome to Math class!!  Please do the following: Take out your 1.3 homework and a grading tool Take out your DEAR book and read

Let’s Check our homework… Reminders: Always grade in a pen, marker, or other colored writing tool Always make corrections and clarifications to your answers Be honest with yourself because YOU are ultimately responsible for knowing the material!

4 ) a (graph of Katrina’s Height)

(graph on pervious slide) Birth to age 1. C. 14-16 & 17-18, no increase. D. Yes, continuous variables. E. Graph- information is easy to see in the graph. -or- Table - easier to find exact answers.

5) Effect of Tide Water Depth A) 6 hours after midnight, or 6:00 am; 16.2 m B) noon; 10.0 m C) The water depth changes most rapidly-by 1.7 m- from 2:00 am to 3:00 am (2 to 3), 8:00 am to 9:00 am (8to 9), and from 2:00 pm- 3:00 pm (14 to 15) D) (Graph below). The graph has 2 “humps”. It looks symmetric, so if it were flipped over x = 12 (hour 12) the two parts would align. The graph rises until 6, falls until hour 12, rises again to hour 18, then falls again. E) Possible: I used 1-hr intervals of time on the x-axis for the independent variable; I used 2-meter intervals on the y- axis for the dependent variable. Both scales made it easy for me to fit all the data on my graph.

26) A & B--Daylight Hours A) The hours of daylight are least in Jan. and Dec. They are greatest in June. The hours of light change most rapidly (by 1.5 hours) from Feb. to Mar. and Sep. to Apr. B) (Graph below) The number of hours of light increases slowly from Jan. to Jun. and reaches a peak at Jun. It decreases slowly from Jun. to Dec.

26) C & D Daylight Hours C) D)

Open your notebook to the warm-up section Title today’s warm-up as… Workbook p.3 (a-c)

WB: p. 3a Answers… Age (in months) is _______________, so it goes on the __-axis. I used a scale of ___. The number of words Sarah can say is _____________ on how old she is, so it is the ___-axis variable. I used a scale of ___ for the y-axis.

C) Most words: from 21 to 22 months (17 words) WB p.3 B and C Answers… B) The amount of words Sarah could say increased slowly at first, but then began to rapidly increase. C) Most words: from 21 to 22 months (17 words) Least words: from 12 to 13 months (0 words)

Class work: You and a partner will answer Problem 1 Class work: You and a partner will answer Problem 1.4 (A-F) found on page 13 in your textbook Each of you is responsible to write your answers in the “Problems/ ACE” section of your own notebook

Yes, Both are continuous variables. There is something happening between the points.

Mechanical problems with a bike. They had to go back to use the restroom. They forgot something and had to go back and get it. They went the wrong way, realized it, turned around and went back.

Most - 4.0 - 4.5 hours. Least 1.5-2.0 & 4.5-5.0

Table - you can see the actual numbers. Graph - easy to see the progress, easy to see the stops, how much they increased or decreased.

81 miles; I looked at the last plotted point (7 81 miles; I looked at the last plotted point (7.5 hours) and matched it to the distance on the y-axis.

Population grew each year. Yes, same data, different scales.

Time of Day & Cans Sold The number of cans sold might have changed due to meal times and snacks.

a. The speed stayed the same the whole time. b. Cyclist - no, you would get tired Van - yes, cruise control. Wind - maybe, the wind could stay the same.
