Cut lines Fold lines Glue tabs Different nets to produce a cube

Products joined together with slot and tab fixings – can be sent flat packed, less costly for manufacturer to produce, no assembly costs, easier and cheaper to transport and store because they take up less space and are less likely to be damaged. Slot and tab fixings allow part or all of a product to be assembled and disassembled without causing damage to the product.

TASKS Read pages 80 – 83 Answer question 1 on page 83 Have a go at drawing the net for one of these pieces of packaging Check yourself exam question page 116 Check yourself exam question page 123

Net for a square based pyramid 1. Draw an isosceles triangle, base length=60mm and sides length =80mm 2. Set your compass to the length of of one side and draw an arc with the top of the triangle being the centre 3. Step off the length of each side around the arc. You need 4 triangles. 4. Add base and glue tabs

Exam question 1. You have been asked to design a piece of packaging to hold 2 CD's. Specification for the packaging - it must have a separate lift off lid - the box must be made from one single piece of card - the lid must be made from one single piece of card - it must be easy to remove the CD's from the cardboard packaging - the size of one CD case is 26mm wide, 140mm deep and 126mm tall a.) Use sketches and notes to develop a design for the box and the lid. Your design should meet all the points on the specification b.) Draw, to a scale of 1:2 the development nets required to make the cardboard box and lid
