Element Identification Chart = Hydrogen Use the symbols to write out the chemical formula for each station. Be careful to identify what is connected and what is not. That way you can determine what is just an element, what is a compound and what might be a mixture. Element = substance that consists of only one type of atom Molecule = two or more elements held together by a bond Compound = two or more different elements chemically bonded = Oxygen O = Carbon C = Sodium Na = Chlorine Possible compound and mixture names for identification Methane = CH4 Carbon Dioxide = CO2 Salt = NaCl Sodium Pyrite = NaFe Iron Chloride = Fe3ClO Water = H20 Iron Oxide = Fe2O3 Nitrous Oxide = NO2 Propane = C3H8 Sodium Hydroxide = NaOH Chlorine Gas = Cl2 Chloride Gas = Cl3 Steel = Iron (Fe) + Carbon (C) Iron Sulfide = FeS Acetylene = C2H2 Carbon Monoxide = CO Baking Soda = NaCHO3 Ammonia = NH3 Salt Water = Salt (NaCl) + Water Acid Rain = Water + CO2 Air = CO2 and N and O2 Cl = Iron Fe = Nitrogen N
