Daily homework assignments are the Daily Language Practice and to read for 20 minutes. All other assignments are usually assignments not finished in class. Middle school students are encouraged to be responsible and turn their work in ON TIME. Assignments turned in late will receive a lower grade. Below 70% is an incomplete. If the grade is incomplete after June 30th, then it becomes a failing grade.

Website Class webpage has a Monday-Friday agenda available for students and parents. Parents are encouraged to use the webpage as a reference for assignments and due dates. http://www.boone.k12.ky.us/olc/teacher.aspx?s=1066 You will need to click on Mrs. Nagel’s Language Arts on the left side to access the daily assignments.

Required Reading Students are required to read a minimum of FOUR novels each quarter. This reading is in addition to the reading completed in class. Even though we may not have a paper/pencil assignment each night, this reading is considered daily homework. Please ask your child about the book he/she is reading and help to include this in his/her nightly homework routine.  Reading progress will be tracked twice a quarter by reading conferences and reading logs. Rule of thumb, a novel should be read every two weeks. As a class we go to the library every two weeks. 

Study of independent reading done in 1987 by Nagy & Herman at U Study of independent reading done in 1987 by Nagy & Herman at U. of Illinois Massive vocabulary expansion comes from seeing words used in context more so than direct instruction. Easy to accomplish, but cannot be done in school alone. Need partnership with parents.

Electronic Devices Students are permitted to use electronic reading devices in the classroom; however, it is their responsibility.  If a student is found doing something other than reading a novel on the device, they will lose the privilege of having it in the classroom.
