First Grade Mrs. Golde’s Class Back To School Night 2017-2018

Mrs. Golde’s Class I am so excited to be a part of the Buffalo Point First Grade Team. This will be a great year for your child! A little bit about me: Taught First Grade 20 + years LOVE IT! Lived in Utah 20 years Brought up in Lexington, Kentucky Have two beautiful grandchildren Think First Grade is so much fun because the students learn to read and write. They make huge gains and love learning!

Student of the Week 2016-2017 Each week a boy or girl will be spotlighted as our Student of the Week. That child will share with his/her class all about themselves through a poster display. They will do this on the Friday of their special week Posters will come home the week prior to their week. A schedule will be coming home the first Monday and will be posted on Mrs. Golde’s website.

Birthdays! On or around your child’s Birthday they will receive a Birthday Bag from Mrs. Golde. The class will sing Happy Birthday as well. If your child does not have a birthday during the school year, this will happen on the week that they are the “Student of the Week”. If you choose to send a snack to celebrate your child’s birthday, please make sure it is purchased and if possible individually wrapped. All birthday treats will be given out the last 15 minutes of the school day.

Lots Of Learning We are learning so much in First Grade! Your student will be learning to read, write, and many math concepts. There is a lot to learn, and not much time to do it in. It takes a lot of practice, and one-on-one time to master all of these skills! YOUR CHILD NEEDS YOUR HELP! Practice makes perfect, and most of the individual practice takes place at home.

Daily Homework Leveled Readers On your child’s exact reading level!  Read, mastered, and brought back (almost) daily. Please sign the Recording Sheet in the student Folder.!

Weekly Homework A note about homework Multi –Use Folders Weekly homework packets will be sent home in the Folders on Monday and will include English and Math Homework for the week, and need to be returned the following Monday. A note about homework Homework for the week provides your child with the needed practice to be successful in the skills currently being taught in the classroom. Homework also informs parents of the content currently being taught and how their child is doing with the mastery of those skills.

Attendance First Grade is FULL of hands on experiences. These experiences can not be recreated, or sent home, in case of absences. THIS IS WHY ATTENDANCE IS SO IMPORTANT! We understand that sickness, and emergencies happen. Please do not send your student to school sick. However, please make every effort to have them at school ON TIME, EVERY DAY!

Weekly Assessments FRIDAY ATTENDANCE IS VITAL! We assess students every Friday in multiple areas that we have been working on during the week. Language Arts Assessment Spelling Test The words that are sent home on Monday will be tested on Friday. Weekly Math Quiz We include practice for these assessments in the weekly homework packet. Weekly Assessments are almost impossible to make up. Please make sure that your student is in class ALL DAY on Friday.

Volunteers WE NEED YOUR HELP IN THE CLASSROOM!! In order for your child to have the best experience in First Grade, we need all of the help we can get As soon as our schedules are set I will be letting you know how and when you will be needed for help on a weekly basis. As always there will be parties that I will need help with this year, a Fall Celebration and a Winter Celebration. We will also be going on several field trips this year and I will give you plenty of notice to sign up as chaperones. A couple of events we will be having that also require helpers are: 100 day Celebration, Field Day and the Annual Car Party. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help!

Standardized Testing Standardized Testing will take place the last part of April and the Beginning of May. We will announce the dates AS SOON as we know! IT IS IMPARITIVE THAT YOUR STUDENT IS IN SCHOOL AND ON TIME FOR ALL TESTING DAYS!

First Grade Behavior Expectations Listen when others are talking Follow directions the first time they are given. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Work quietly and don’t disturb others. Show respect to students, teachers, and school property. Work and play safely.

Behavior Management Positive Classroom Work towards classroom/table points for rewards Positive notes home Treasure Box Consequences for not following expectations 1.Verbal Reminders of First Grade Expectations 2. Discussion with Teacher concerning Expectations 3. Logical Consequences related to the behavior that are respectful of the student, related to the expectation and require the student to be responsible( not teacher or parent). Examples: Student is interrupting others consistently on the carpet. Student will be sent back to seat and not able to participate in conversation. Student has been unkind or said unkind things. Student will apologize and maybe write a note of apology during student’s recess/prep time. Not finishing work in an appropriate amount of time because student was playing and off task. Student will use recess or prep time to finish their work. Student is having difficulty lining up without running( unsafe behavior). Student will practice lining up without running individually. 4. A note will be sent home informing the student’s parents of their behavior and an e-mail will be sent to the parents to inform them the note is coming
