Coordinator’s Duties: ADVERTISE THE FAIR!!! Through science/tech ed. department teachers Announcements and local media (Twitter, school newspaper, etc) ADVISE/SUPPORT Create a science fair club that offers a time and place for students interested in the science fair to meet and develop their ideas. Assist interested students in filling out the required paperwork before Nov. when the SRC board meets to approve all projects. (paperwork submitted after this time will need to go through an inhouse SRC board you create!) Assist students in finding an appropriate mentor for their project type Insure student safety! Paperwork must be completed for research to begin.

Coordinator’s Duties: ADVISE Assist students in finding an appropriate mentor for their project type Teachers evaluate all projects for potential risks – check the Intel ISEF Handbook for help with this. Remind students of important deadlines (especially the registration deadline!) A remind account for science fair participants works great for staying in touch. REGULATE At the HS level - Form a building-wide SRC/IRB for late paperwork Projects with risk/danger/humans/vertebrates need preapproval before beginning

Coordinator’s Duties: ENTHUSE Your attitude is contagious so help spread hype about the opportunities that independent research can offer your students (not to mention the $)! HOST The school level fair and organize judging process Judges can come from the community, other grade level science teachers, etc NEW: Students must go through another school fair (if their school does not hold one) to be allowed to proceed to the Regional Fair. Find local community sponsors for food, certificates and medals if desired JUDGE Assist with Jr. Division judging at the Regional Fair

SRC/IRBs? Every High School is to have its own SRC/IRB Review Board, which can be one in the same. IRB – evaluates any project using human subjects (even for surveys) An educator School administrator (Principal or AP) Medical or Health Professional (Dr. Nurse, Psychologist, social worker or counselor) SRC – evaluate projects involving vertebrate animals and/or potentially hazardous biological agents. (THESE MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE EXPERIMENTATION BEGINS!!!) Biomedical scientist with a doctorate 1 additional member with expertise in specific areas of study ex. Veterinarian or assistant. Documented phone consults are sufficient here. Adult sponsors/supervisors may not serve on these boards due to potential conflicts of interest.

Required Sr. Div. Paperwork See Intel ISEF Handbook for required paperwork. Rules Wizard can help students determine what paperwork is required for their particular project New: Students must complete a Research Plan form to insure all required Form 1A information is present. Required ISEF Forms Chart
