Essential Question How can interactive notebooks facilitate the planning of effective and meaningful lessons that integrate literacy in my music classroom? aiken county public school district

Presenters Meeting Outcomes As a result of attending this meeting, participants will have reviewed the function and purpose of interactive notebooks explored uses of interactive notebooks to promote language and music literacy shared successful strategies with fellow educators aiken county public school district

You might NOT need interactive notebooks in your classroom if……… 1. Your students already know where ALL of their materials for your class are located. 2. Your students’ notebooks are so well organized they can pull up notes from two months ago in a jiffy. 3. Your students are currently retaining concepts you teach from day to day. 4. Your students are actively engaged in the learning process taking place in your room. 5. All of your lessons already accommodate a variety of learning styles. 6. Students already keep a record of their learning for the year. http://imlovinlit.com/2016/05/26/5-reasons-not-use-interactive-notebooks/ aiken county public school district

What is an interactive notebook? A place to keep all classwork together Learning portfolio Where the student will be asked to express his/her own ideas and process the information presented in class A way to measure and record academic growth Enables students to be creative, independent thinkers and musicians Personalized text book How I got started aiken county public school district

2. Gather all your supplies. Organization of your supplies and materials are key to interactive notebooks working for you in your classroom! How am I going to store and allow student access to interactive notebook supplies? How am I going to organize and store the notebooks in my room? How am I going to plan and organize for students that miss work or entries into the notebook? aiken county public school district

Organizing supplies What works for me. Keeping my supplies container that I can quickly get out and put away. Clearly labeling all of my supplies. Instilling a sense of class ownership in our classroom supplies so that students help keep up, organize and monitor each other to keep everything together. Keeping supplies out all the time is an invitation for students to use your supplies whenever they feel the need. I have a classroom set of scissors, rulers, crayons, glue sticks and colored pencils. I only loan out what I can keep up with. I usually appoint a student to help me count scissors, rulers. Students will learn ownership and problems keeping up with supplies will diminish the longer you do it. aiken county public school district
