My Life Journey: Becoming A Teacher By Joseph Young
KENORA
I was born and raised in a small North-western Ontario community of 15,000 people called Kenora. It is located on the shores of Lake of the Woods and is only a half an hour drive from the Manitoba border.
Growing up in such a small community surrounded by wilderness I was introduced to sports and outdoor activities from a young age. My passion for these types of activities is still growing and I love to teach others about them.
I’ve known from a very young age that I wanted to have a career related to athletics since that is what I love to do most in life. Once I got past the age of thinking that making it as a professional athlete was an option I thought about what I could be. Throughout the years I’ve had many inspiring coaches and physical education teachers.
It is because of them that I decided years ago that being a teacher is what I wanted to do for a career. I want to influence as many students as possible in a positive way so they all can enjoy playing sports as much as I have growing up. In my opinion there is no other career where you can have that kind of an impact and build relationships with such a large number of children. A good teacher can and will positively change the lives of many of their students over the course of their career. To be this kind of a teacher is my goal.
I have now officially begun the last step in my preparation for becoming a teacher. I have just started the Teacher Education program at the University of Ottawa and am looking forward to learning lots and pursuing my dream.
Thank you for joining me through the journey that has brought me to my career of being a teacher!
