LINEAR PERSPECTIVE Canaletto, Paesaggio II

Complex spatial system based on a relatively simple visual phenomenon. LINEAR PERSPECTIVE Complex spatial system based on a relatively simple visual phenomenon. As parallel lines recede, they appear to converge and meet on the HORIZON, at the same point, known as the VANISHING POINT. Edward Hopper, Gas, 1940

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE One point perspective presents a very organized and unified spatial image. One point perspective is when a single point has been placed on the horizon line, and all the lines of objects that are right angles to the plane of the canvas, angle off toward the vanishing point. Vincent Van Gogh, The Night Café, 1888 Artist Unknown

TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE Artist Unknown

TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE In two point perspective there are two vanishing points on the horizon at which point the lines converge. It is viewed from an angle and appears to us as more natural and lifelike.

Amplified Perspective

Amplified Perspective An effective tool to create a dramatic quality in a painting or drawing. This device reproduced the visual image but in a very special view that occurs when the item is exaggerated, pointed directly at the viewer or foreshortened. Hilo Chen Artist Unknown.

ATMOSPHERIC PERSPECTIVE Alfred Sisley, Banks of the Seine in Autumn

Atmospheric (or Aerial) Perspective Method of creating the illusion of depth, or recession, in a painting by modulating color to simulate changes affected by the atmosphere on the colors of things seen at a distance. The objects that are far away appear more neutral in color and take on a bluish tone. The value contrast between distant objects gradually lessens and contours become less distinct. Frans Koppelaar, Landscape near Bologna #18 Rio Grande Gorge, Taos, Jon Conkey
