Why use Openly Licensed Educational Resources? The passage of the - Every Student Succeeds Act. (ESSA) & #GoOpen The sweeping federal law signed by President Barack Obama allows states and local education agencies to channel block grant money focused on technology toward open materials. U.S. Department of Education Recognizes 14 States and 40 Districts Committing to #GoOpen with Educational Resources. Increase Equity – All students have access to high quality learning materials that have the most up-to-date and relevant content freely distributed to anyone. Save Money – Switching to educational materials that are openly licensed enables schools to repurpose funding spent on static textbooks for other pressing needs, such as investing in the transition to digital learning. In some districts, replacing just one textbook has made tens of thousands of dollars available for other purposes. Keep Content Relevant and High Quality – Traditional textbooks are perpetually outdated, forcing districts to re-invest significant portions of their budgets on replacing them. The use of openly licensed educational resources allows educators to maintain the quality and relevance of their materials through continuous updates. Empower Teachers – Openly licensed educational resources empower teachers as creative professionals by giving them the ability to adapt & customize learning materials to meet the needs of their students without breaking copyright laws. K-12 officials see them as low-cost materials that give teachers more power than they have with commercial products to choose content. Proprietary & Confidential

Educators Use OER to impact Teaching & Learning Why Educators Use OER? Educators Use OER to impact Teaching & Learning The OERRH Surveys also brought to light the various ways OERs make a positive impact on both teaching and learning. Teachers broaden their range of teaching methods, reflect more on the ways that they teach and teachers report that when they use OERs, learner engagement, satisfaction, and interest are increased. Proprietary & Confidential Teacher, Parent & Student Feedback Curriki has provided an open source platform for me to learn from experts and grow professionally at my own rate. I do not have to spend hundreds of dollars on conferences...I can access content that I desire and maximize my learning time. Valerie Lewis Teacher, Gwinnett, GA Curriki has helped me out because I can get ideas and lesson plans, I can use the lesson plan as is or I can modify it to suit my classes. Judy Scharf Teacher, Manhasset, NY I was having trouble with Geometry. I found a lot of great courses on Geometry which I took and ended up getting an A in the class! Now I am using it to help me with many of my courses! Really appreciate what you are doing. I just wanted to say I’m so encouraged by what you are doing, that we never buy textbooks.
