What is CHC? Consumer Health Complete (CHC) is an interfaced designed by EBSCO for the everyday consumer of health care information. Covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children’s health, men & woman’s health. It provides convenient access to easily understandable health and medical information. You can search and browse within medical encyclopedias, popular reference books and magazine articles. NOTE: Information provided in this database should not be viewed as a means for self-diagnosis or a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnose or treatment.

CHC Contains Full text for 176 health reference books and encyclopedias Thousands of full text evidence-based, health reports 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names from Lexi-Pal Drug Guide. The CHC Home Page Basic Search Quick Find Health Highlights The CHC Home Page is broken down into 5 specific areas. The Basic Search Area The Quick Find Area Health Highlights The Browse Popular Sources Area The Search By Topic Area. We will look at each of these. Let’s Begin with the Basic Search Area…… Browse Popular Sources Search By Topic

The Search Area Glaucoma From the Home Page – You can enter your Search Terms in the Find box and click Search. The are also direct links into the different document types. Let’s search for GLAUCOMA….

The Result List The search terms are retained in the Find field above the result list. The result list is returned by “SOURCE TYPE”.

Source Type When available, the default Result List Tab is Evidence-Based Reports. If no Evidence-Based Reports are available, the All results tab is displayed. To view the information in a different tab – click on the appropriate tab.

Refining your search If you click on The Refine Search link, you are returned to the Basic Search Screen. Your search terms are remembered.

Starting Over If you click on CHC Logo, you will be returned to the Basic Search Screen. All your search terms are CLEARED.

Quick Find The Quick Find feature on the Home Page provides easy access to health reports on common diseases. Conditions and injuries. Click on any of the A – Z Links.

Conditions & Procedures By Clicking on the A – a list of all the available Conditions & Procedures are displayed. Click on Achilles Tendinitis….

Related Information For additional information related to the selected condition, click on the links in the Related Information Box.

Browsing Popular Sources Several popular encyclopedias and health-related reference books are available from the home page. Several popular encyclopedias and health-related reference books are available for browsing right from the CHC home page.

Guide to Prescription Drugs Basic information about the book. Clicking on one of theses will produce the page displayed. The top part of the page displays basic information about the reference book that you selected. The bottom part of the screen allows you to browse through the book, enter a term to search, or use the A-Z links. Clicking on any of the entries will produce the article details for that term. Alphabetical Listing of Contents.

Topic Search When you click a topic in the Search by Topic column. A list of subtopics appears on the right hand side of the Screen.

Alternative Treatments Mark any of the subtopics that you want and click search. If you select only a main topic – your results will be broad. If you want more focused results, mark the subtopics you want. You can also enter a search term to refine your search even further.

The Advanced Search The Advanced Search link offers keyword searching, search history, and limiters to help you focus your search.

Limiters Guided Search Box Document Types Limiters Choose the search field from the Select a field drop down list and enter the term you are looking for. Repeat this step for the second and third fields. Be sure to also select an operator (AND, OR, NOT) to combine you find fields together. Select the document type that you are looking for. If you want to find results for all document types be sure that all items are checked. Click the Search button for your results listing. Limiters

Publication Search The Publication Authority File lists the information contained in a database according to journal or magazine name. The Publication link is located in the Advanced Search area.

Translation Features CHC screens are presented in English by default. To change the language of the interface, select a language from the drop-down list.

Full Record Views Citation View HTML Full Text View Includes a summary or an abstract. Your original keywords are highlighted HTML Full Text View The text is displayed formatted and ready for printing. A brief citation is always included at the end of the article. Citation View. – The author and subjects can appear as links to let you perform a search on that particular field.

Full Record Views PDF Full Text View These articles open with Adobe Acrobat Reader. To print this type of article, you use the print capability from the Reader.

Print/Email/Save Print Email and Save options are always available at the top of each of the articles.
