Why am I still here? Pastures 17/04/16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life John 3 v 16

Why am I still here? Why are you still here?

1. To spread the good news

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Romans 10 v 14

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15

“Gossip the Gospel”

Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

We are fellow-workers with God

2. To do good works

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Then they asked him, ‘What must we do to do the works God requires Then they asked him, ‘What must we do to do the works God requires?’ Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.’ John 6:28-29

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

3. To demonstrate God’s love

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you ……… If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? Matthew 5:44,46

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 1 Peter 2:23

Conclusion

“You are the only Bible your neighbours will read”

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. John 17:15-18

I am sending you out like sheep among wolves I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Matthew 10:16
