Genome Science Theme Seminar College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology Genome Science Theme Seminar Wednesday 4th March 2015: 2.00 – 3.00pm Frank and Katherine May Lecture Theatre, Henry Wellcome Building Dr Sean Sweeney, University of York Sean’s research centres on the role of the endosome in regulating signals controlling synapse growth. Appropriate regulation of synaptic growth is a key mechanism in regulating the fidelity of synaptic communication. He works with the larval neuromuscular junction of Drosophila as a model glutamatergic synapse to identify endosomal related signaling events occurring in human pathological conditions. In recent work he has identified oxidative stress as a regulator of synapse growth. A potentially critical insight into the signalling activated in the brain both during ageing and neurodegenerative disease. “Identifying regulators of synapse growth and function in Frontotemporal Dementia” All welcome
