What were Viking farms like? Most people lived on farms. Farmers used iron tools, such as sickles and hoes. They grew oats, barley and wheat, and ground the grain to make flour, porridge and ale. Vikings grew vegetables such as onions, beans and cabbages. They used manure from the animals to keep the soil fertile. In autumn, farmers killed some animals to eat all through winter.

Viking farm animals Viking farm animals included cows , pigs, sheepdogs, sheep, chickens and maybe horses or donkeys . Vikings sadly killed their animals in winter because they didn’t have a lot of food.

Outside a Viking Longhouse They had animals grazing. They were growing plants and food. They had runes (Viking letters and words) on their rocks.

Viking Longhouses Viking long houses were made of stone, wood or tar. Lots of people and the animals lived in the house. In the house they had animal skins and furs for decoration.

Inside the Viking long houses They had a cooking pot in the middle of the room. They had a cattle in their house. They had a bed made of fur. .
